Media To Check Out

Rather than tell you specific books that I’ve read, I’d like to refer you to check out their authors as there are usually more than a few books produced by them.

Authors

  • David the Good
  • Joel Salatin
  • Joseph & Amy Alton
  • Cody Lundin
  • Murray Dickson
  • Toby Hemenway
  • Louise Riotte
  • Samuel Thayer
  • Lisa Bedford
  • Dave Ramsey
  • Carleen Madigan
  • Robert Kiyosaki
  • Sally Fallon
  • Bill Mollison

There are a few books that I would recommend that don’t really have a direct author, so please check out the series of Ball Canning Guides, the Nurses Drug Guide, Readers Digest Back to Basics and the Physicians’ Desk Reference. Some of these books are fairly expensive so if you can find them on ebay or at garage sales, be sure to grab them.

There is too a series of books written by Julia Rothman called ‘Farm Anatomy’, ‘Food Anatomy’, ‘Ocean Anatomy’, and ‘Nature Anatomy’ that are very educational if you have kids interested in those things. Do be aware that she writes other non-kid friendly books, so search specifically for those titles.

Another kid friendly series of books is titled, ‘Herb Fairies” by Kim Gallagher which teaches children how to use herbs for ailments through little fairy stories. I purchased the whole series for my kids, and they really enjoyed them all.

One of my favorite books that I always recommend people pick up is Clara’s Kitchen which is authored by an adorable Italian nonna that grew up in the Great Depression. There are some wonderful videos that her grandson did to go with the cookbook.

If you are looking for videos, you can search youtube and look up the above authors to see if they have anything available. I would strongly encourage you to check out a few different series that were put out by the BBC titled ‘Wartime Farm’, ‘Victorian Farm’, ‘Tudor Farm’, and ‘Edwardian Farm’. There are accompanying books for some of these docu-series as well.

Happy homesteading and I hope you find these resources helpful.
