Lotus Eaters, Berserkers & NPCs

I’m a big advocate for people moving outside of the city but you need to understand the reason why I and many others are warning people to flee to the mountains and the forests to get to safety. Stay with me, I’m going somewhere on this. 🙂

The story of the Lotus Eaters come from Greek myology and was about natives who consumed a lotus which gave the person who consumed it a happy and euphoric sensation. Now imagine that there’s not just Lotus that gives you this effect but a whole gamut of drugs that do this and actually come in multiple forms. Humans have long had a fascination with drug use as a way to escape from realities harsh struggles.

While this story may originate from old texts, consider the current epidemic of “homeless” individuals in the mega cities who walk around in a zombified state of indulgence. There are dozens of videos showing people in San Francisco, New York City, St Petersburg and even across the pond in the UK. Would you want your wife or kids to have close proximity to these individuals on a daily basis in their drugged-out state? Imagine if the Spice stopped flowing, what type of conditions would you find in the larger cities?

Berserkers were savage warriors that would consume a drug which would increase the output of violence before taking to the battlefield. Depending on whether or not you’re reading a book or playing a game, once the Berserker had the substance in their system, they would turn into savages who would rape, steal and kill any who they came across. Consider all the riots that America has experienced even as far back as the mid-nineties. If I were to take a guess, I’d assume that the chemical rioters tend to be enthralled with is pure adrenaline from their own bodies.

And finally, we have the NPC which stands for non-playable character and you find them in darn near every single video game ever created. The NPC has one purpose and to simply exist by moving the storyline along. You can not modify them, even if you wanted to. On the off chance you attempt to foolishly save them or remove them from their programmed destination, will either confuse or anger them.

During the height of the pandemic, people lost their minds in the larger cities and hundreds if not thousands of people started looking at others like they were infected zombies. It caused a traumatic toll on so many individuals, and the last place any adult should want their children or spouse to be is in an area where it could happen again.

Start making your 1-, 5- and 10-year plans now if you haven’t already. If you can’t leave the city, consider setting up your family in a cabin or tiny house somewhere in the country while you hammer away at your debt from city living. When you’re ready to make the transition to living in the boonies and setting up your homestead, shoot me over an email or voice mail and I’ll be glad to help get you on your way!

Happy Homesteading!
